Ryan Kochan | Vice President of Operations

Ryan Kochan brings over 20 years of expertise in cathodic protection and pipeline integrity to his role as Vice President of Operations at Blue Steel Integrity. After earning his 3rd Class Power Engineering certification from NAIT in 1997, he spent five years in operations at Dow Chemical before transitioning into the corrosion sector.

Ryan specializes in Indirect Assessments (IA), including DOC, CIS, GPS, ACCA, ACVG, and DCVG, overseeing data collection, analysis, and reporting. He has led high-profile projects for FortisBC, Pembina, Enbridge, and Trans Mountain, delivering cathodic protection and AC mitigation solutions.

A strong leader in project execution, safety, and workflow optimization, Ryan holds certifications including NACE Level 2 CP Technician and Leadership for Safety Excellence. His commitment to safety, compliance, and operational excellence supports Blue Steel Integrity’s mission to protect North America’s pipeline infrastructure.

Richard Buksa, P. Eng. | Vice President of Engineering

After earning his degree in Electrical Engineering in 1993 from the University of Alberta, Richard Buksa began his career in cathodic protection and pipeline integrity with a former employer until 2000, when he joined HM Pipeline Services.  At HM, as a leader of the CP and indirect assessment services division, Richard also served as electrical design engineer & electronics liaison on the team that conceptualized & developed the indirect assessment survey tool that would later become known as Spectrum XLI.

With over 30 years of experience in cathodic protection & pipeline integrity, he has held leadership roles at HM, E-MAC Corrosion (owner/director) and PureHM/Xylem as principal engineer.  From boots on the ground to management, Richard has performed at every level on many major projects in cathodic protection, AC mitigation and pipeline indirect assessment for several major oil & gas companies.  With Professional Engineering designations in Alberta & British Columbia, Richard also holds NACE/AMPP certifications as a CP Level 4 Specialist and PCIM Technologist.

Along with the rest of the dedicated Blue Steel team, Richard is committed to providing innovation & excellence in the effort to protect pipeline infrastructure and the environment.

David Elmelah | Vice President of Business Development

David Elmelah brings over 30 years of experience in pipeline integrity and corrosion prevention, driving business growth and client partnerships at Blue Steel Integrity. He has held leadership roles at PureHM, E-MAC Corrosion, and Corexco, with expertise in sales, safety, and procurement.

Certified in COR and ISO, and a graduate of McGill's Business Administration program, David is committed to using his expertise to foster innovation, trust, and operational excellence in safeguarding pipeline infrastructure.

James Staszuk

After earning his Electronics Technologist certificate from BCIT, James Staszuk began his career in pipeline integrity as an MFL Inspector with Tuboscope Pipeline Services. He then joined HM Pipeline Services, where he spent 16 years helping develop key technologies, including the XLI system for ECDA surveys, the Armadillo AGMs, and the remote tracking system.

With 24 years of experience in pipeline integrity, James brings deep expertise in inspection, technology development, and industry innovation.
